Year 4

Autumn Term

Key Information

PE lessons this term will take place on Tuesday and Friday afternoons and in order for your child to participate fully in these lessons, please ensure they have a full PE kit (both indoor and outdoor) in school at all times.  We expect all children to be able to remove their own jewellery (including earrings) by themselves and long hair must be tied up.

Swimming lessons will take place on Friday afternoons every other week-with 4MY starting on Friday 27th September and 4SP on Friday 4th October 1.30-2.15pm. Again, for these lessons we expect the children to be able to remove their own jewellery.

Our topics for this term are 'The Vikings' (History), 'India' (Geography) and ‘Animals including humans’ (Science).  In English we will be carrying out work based on Robin Hood.

Please consult our Autumn 2019 Curriculum Newsletter for more details about the topics covered.

News

This term we are looking forward to a trip to the cinema as part of the 'Into Film Festival' event for children and we all enjoyed our recent trip to Pitsford Water Centre.

Home Learning

Year 4 homework expectations are as follows:

Maths - For the first half of the Autumn term we would like the children to revise their times tables so that they are able to recall them instantly and in any order.  After half term we will continue to work on these times tables but the focus will be on the associated division facts. The children should also be using Times Tables Rockstars regularly at home.

Reading - It is expected that the children read and/or listen to you read (either their school reading book or a book of their choice) for at least 10-20 minutes on a daily basis to help to develop their enjoyment, fluency and comprehension skills. This reading must then be recorded in their Reading Records which should be brought into school each Friday to be reviewed.

Spellings – Weekly spelling lists to learn will no longer be sent home.  Please see our Autumn ‘Home Learning’ sheet for further details.

Creative Homework -This is to be based on our Science and Humanities topics (see above).
